PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists in developing building media policies and implementation procedures within system policies and
procedures
2. Coordinates and plans the school media program with the building media committee
3. Develops media budget proposal and implements state and local media policies and standards
4. Plans with the principal and makes reports as required by the principal
5. Participates in planning for system wide and building program development
6. Creates and fosters a climate that motivates effective utilization of media facilities, resources, and
services
7. Interprets the media program to students, faculty, administration, and the community
8. Insures accessibility to media and informs users of media center services and resources
9. Serves on curriculum and textbook committees and assists teachers in organizing instructional units and
learning experiences.
10. Selects media based on the needs of the instructional program and individual users
11. Works with instructional staff to provide learning experiences for media skills development
12. Evaluates media services with administrative and instructional staff and modifies as appropriate
13. Manages the acquisition, processing, organization, circulation, maintenance, and inventory of resources
14. Produces locally designed materials for and with students and instructional staff
15. Plans and implements media-related staff development activities
16. Cooperates with the local public library and develops a community resource file
17. Assists in the selection of media center support personnel
18. Participates in professional media and educational organizations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Occasional lifting of at least 25 pounds
• Occasional carrying of at least 15 pounds
• Occasional pushing and/or pulling
• Some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling
• Significant fine finger dexterity
• Generally: 33% sitting, 34% walking, 33% standing

Requirements
Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution State certification as Media Specialist
