Nearly 70 students from nine schools across Georgia will travel to Thomson High on April 15 to participate in the first high school welding competition to be held in McDuffie County.
“We are very excited to host our first competition here at THS,” said Welding Instructor and SkillsUSA Advisor Courtney Brinkman. “There are not a lot of competitions in the second semester, so this gives students another opportunity to put their skills to the test.”
This will be the inaugural event for what will become an annual competition, and Mrs. Brinkman is already working to increase participation each following year. A career fair will also take place on the grounds during the competition to assist welding students in connecting with industry leaders to explore future career options.
Registration will take place at 8:00 a.m., and the competition will begin approximately at 8:30 in the Thomson High Welding Lab and last until noon. Spectators and media attending the competition are encouraged to park in the teacher parking lot adjacent to the lab on the right-hand side of the school.
